چکیده

The association of spontaneous intracranial hypotension with cerebral venous sinus thrombosis is rare. We report here a case of extensive cerebral venous sinus thrombosis involving three sinuses following spontaneous intracranial hypotension. The patient presented no other thrombotic risk factors except for spontaneous intracranial hypotension. This case adds to the evidence that spontaneous intracranial hypotension is a risk factor for cerebral venous sinus thrombosis. We report here a patient with SIH who subsequently developed CVST. The patient had no other thrombotic risk factors. We believe that SIH should be considered as a risk factor of CVST.

Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension Plus Cerebral Venous Thrombosis: A Case Report Study

This is a case study of a 34-year-old woman who was admitted to hospital with a history of severe orthostatic headache. She was diagnosed as having spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) by undetectable cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure at lumbar puncture, and with evidence of diffuse dural enhancement of the brain detected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, the contrast-enhance...

Cerebral Venous Thrombosis in Two Patients with Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension

Although few patients with spontaneous intracranial hypotension develop cerebral venous thrombosis, the association between these two entities seems too common to be simply a coincidental finding. We describe two cases of spontaneous intracranial hypotension associated with cerebral venous thrombosis. In one case, extensive cerebral venous thrombosis involved the superior sagittal sinus and mul...

Pseudo-subarachnoid hemorrhage demonstrated by T2*-weighted gradient echo MRI.

was referred to the neurology department for comatose state with brainstem dysfunction. Non-contrast brain CT showed diffuse cerebral edema with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH)-like appearance (Fig. 1A). A lumbar puncture was not carried out because of the brain edema which was revealed in CT examination. T2*-weighted gradient-echo MRi revealed enlarged subarachnoid vessels that were not consiste...

To the Editor: We read with interest the case report “Postpartum postural headache due to superior sagittal sinus thrombosis mistaken for spontaneous intracranial hypotension” by Chilsholm and Campbell.1 In that report a patient was eventually diagnosed with a sagittal sinus thrombosis after undergoing a lumbar epidural blood patch (LEBP). Of note, the patient had a magnetic resonance imaging (...
